FAQ

What is functional fitness?

Functional fitness training - as it suggests - is about how your body, joints, muscles and skeleton function. When it comes to having a healthy functional body, you also need a strong framework; when muscles work against an external force, whether that be weighted props or bodyweight, you are building muscular strength and improving muscular endurance.

Functional style fitness that incorporates weight training will improve bone health and increase bone density, creating a strong skeleton that will keep you moving, injury free, throughout your life.

Why should I do it?

Resistance training is a fantastic way to build lean muscle mass, which takes up 20% less space in the body - per pound - than fat. By developing strong and toned muscles, your body will build strength capability and be in overall better health.

Working on building lean muscle mass is what will burn more calories around the clock than anything else, so if you’re someone who is looking to manage their size, then this is a good place to start.

What do I need?

You might want a yoga mat, but it’s not compulsory and honestly little else. If you have home workout equipment, great. If not, my programmes can be followed with no equipment. In due course you might decide to get a few resistance bands but it’s by no means a necessity - they are inexpensive and can come in handy when you want to up the ante!

For in person sessions, I will supply all the equipment that you will need (weights, resistance bands, a few balls and blocks). These will help to keep the training interesting, support your alignment in areas of weakness or imbalance, and make exercises more challenging. No matter what your level, it’s essential to rehydrate with water and for the rest of the day; you may also want a sweat towel.

Where do I workout?

The joy is that I come to you. You can choose whether that’s your home, the garden, or in a public space. I’m pretty creative and can adapt all of my workouts to smaller spaces, that's no problem. Securing resistance bands to door knobs, chair legs or radiators is all part of the fun! Online Training is also popular, find out more.

How long does it take?

All regular sessions are 60 minutes and these include a warm up and mobility exercises to prepare the body for deliberate movement, the main elements of the workout, and finish with a good ol’ stretch to aid muscle recovery and rehabilitation.

When can I train?

Whenever! Supremely flexible, one-to-one personal training and coaching at a time to suit you. Subject to availability, but essentially you decide.

COVID-19 safe?

Maintaining safety during this global pandemic is paramount. If training in person is safe and permitted I will be adhering to current government guidelines, socially distancing, wearing PPE and cleaning equipment before and after use. If you or anyone in your household have symptoms, online training is your best option.
